Philippine Republic Day Celebration (PRDC)

On June 5 2010, from 10:00 am to 5:00pm, the “Pista Sa Nayon” or Filipino Festival, another annual major event of the Philippine Republic Day Celebration will be at Traders Village 2602 E. Mayfield Rd. in Grand Prairie. Traders Village, one of the largest flea markets in the United States, offered a huge pavilion for the comfort of the festival goers. The event will start with the parade of banners, followed by the program showcasing Filipino and other multi-ethnic cultural presentations, choirs, bands, and songs. Vendors will sell exquisite paraphernalias and delicacies. There will be games for adults and children, elbow rubbing among families and friends. The Santacruzan, a beauty pageant procession honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary winds up the activity. Around 20,000 visitors are expected on this year’s festival.
The Philippine Republic Day Celebration (PRDC) is based in Dallas but the governing twenty one board members are residents of the DFW metroplex. It is a Non Profit Organization, formed in 1993, with the vision of a joint month-long celebration of the Philippine Republic Day roughly close to June 12th, the day General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the independence of the Filipinos in 1898.
Impelled by the need to strengthen the bond of solidarity among them, majority of the different Filipino American organizations, churches, business establishments join forces to celebrate their precious independence won by their forefathers from Spain 110 years ago. PRDC aims to reach the 40,000 Filipino-Americans residing in the DFW Metroplex, who make significant contributions to the local economy as doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers, other business and professions. PRDC also aims to invite other cultures to further enhance friendship with them who share a history of unwavering commitment to freedom and democracy.
Admission is free and parking is only $3. The market is located at 2602 Mayfield Road in Grand Prairie, five miles south of Six Flags Over Texas, just off State Highway 360 near I-20 and is open every weekend.
