18th Texas Championship Pow Wow
Nov 10th-11th 2007
Presented by the Dallas-Fort Worth Inter-Tribal Association
A two-day Native American Pow Wow with colorful tribal dance contests, an Indian artist and traders arts & crafts tent, teepee, visiting with old friends, making new ones, honoring ceremonies, singing, dancing and much more will be part of the 13th Annual Texas Championship Indian Pow Wow. The event will take place at Traders Village on Saturday and Sunday, November 10 & 11, 2007, and presented by the Dallas-Fort Worth Inter-Tribal Association.
Several hundred Native Americans, representing dozens of tribes from across the United States will take part in this celebration of culture and heritage. Dancers in full regalia of feathers, buckskin, bells and beadwork will be competing for prize money and awards in eighteen different dance categories. Participants will range in age from two-year old toddlers to grandmothers in their 80's.
The Indian food booth will serve authentic Native American fry bread and Indian tacos. Artists, craftsmen and traders from Texas and surrounding states will showcase their wares and talents in the arts & crafts event under The Red Expo, so come rain and shine - the show will go on.
Tipi exhibits will provide visitors with a close-up look at life with this age-old form of portable shelter.
The dance contests will take place from 12 noon - 6:00 p.m., with Grand Entry at 12:00 noon, on Saturday and Sunday. The arts & crafts sale will be open from 9:00 a.m. to sundown each day. The tipi exhibit will be open only during daylight hours - dawn to dusk - both days.
The drums will beat for the dancers in the following categories: tiny tots, little boys, little girls, junior boys, junior girls, golden age men & ladies, ladies cloth, buckskin, fancy shawl, jingle dress, men's straight, traditional, grass and fancy. Visitors will see dancers in full traditional dress at all dance sessions over the two days.
